CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- More than 68 percent of Illinoisans over the age of 5 are fully vaccinated, and as the COVID surge continues, the state is planning a few, one-day mass booster vaccination clinics in the suburbs over the next couple of weekends to get more people boosted.
On Friday, Jan. 7 in Joliet, there will be a mass booster vaccination clinic at Joliet Junior College until 6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 9 in DuPage County, there will be a mass booster vaccination clinic at Addison Trail High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and next Sunday, Jan. 16, there will be one in Kane County at Spring Hill Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All three types of vaccines - Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J - will be offered at the booster clinics. No appointment, identification, or health insurance are required.
“Booster shots are a key part of keeping ourselves and our loved ones as healthy as possible this winter,” Gov. JB Pritzker said in a news release. “My administration is partnering with local health departments to make these free vaccines as accessible as possible for all eligible residents – which now includes Illinoisans 12 and up. This is another step forward for safe schools, safe businesses and safe communities for all.”
The move comes as Illinois set a new single-day record for new COVID-19 cases and patients in the hospital with COVID-19, on Thursday. It was the first day Illinois had more than 100 COVID-19 deaths in a day since February 11, 2021.
