AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A West Aurora High School student is facing charges after a gun was found in his backpack while on campus, Aurora police said.

Police said officers were called to the school a little before noon on Tuesday, with a report of a student with a gun. The student was shortly identified and detained by officers. After searching the student’s backpack, the gun was found and the student was taken into custody.

Being a minor, the student will not be identified. Police have determined that the student did not have any specific plans to use the gun at the school and believe this was an isolated innocent.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved several felony charges against the student. The student has been charged with five counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, one count of FOID Card Violation, and two counts of Aggravated Battery to a peace officer.
