(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A confidence boost from the click of a camera.
"People feel very empowered when they see gorgeously made photographs of themselves,” says Jacob Miller, founder of Purple Boudoir, a photography studio in the West Loop with a motto of "Quiet Your Inner Critic."
"I think we wouldn't be human if we didn't at times struggle with self-esteem. It seems to be a human condition thing. Are we good enough?"
Purple Boudoir specializes in photography for singles and couples as well.
"Which is unusual. Most studios only do singles and only women. We're very inclusive. We are Chicago's only studio that welcomes singles and couples, LGBTQ+, straight, young, old, slender, full figured, everybody,” Miller said.
Miller says through awareness, fundraising, photography sessions, and in the studio's name, Purple Boudoir has a mission of ending domestic violence and is a longtime partner of the non-profit WINGS program.
"The statistics are one in three people are going to experience domestic abuse in one form or another in their lifetime. It really touches all of us, either directly or indirectly. Someone we know or love has been in a situation like this."
Another mission? Helping Chicagoans love what they see in the mirror.
"Our clients describe their experiences as empowering, transformative, almost like a before and an after. They fall in love with their photos, they get albums and prints for the wall. They just come to see themselves in a new light. I can go to sleep at night knowing that I helped somebody feel good about themselves. That's a very fulfilling way to earn a living is to do this for people."
