(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — This week's Difference Maker runs programs that make a huge difference for suburban seniors in need, but she's now the one asking for help.

Marylin Krolak runs the DuPage and Kane County Senior Citizens Councils, which provide meals to hundreds of seniors who live below the poverty level.

The number of people relying on meals from the organizations has grown significantly.

"We increased our volume by 40%, and that is still where this pandemic has left us with a 40% increase," Krolak said.

The meals program had to be suspended for a time because of a lack of federal and state funding.

"Those seniors that are low-priority are put on hold, are being putting on what is commonly called a waiting list,” she said.

Krolak hopes people will donate to help provide meals to those seniors in greatest need.
