(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The far northern suburb of Mundelein is looking to the future for better days at its Diamond Lake beach

“Now it’s time for us to begin the master plan process,” said Ron Salski.

Salski, executive director of the Mundelein Park and Recreation District, said the master plan is for the 100-acre Diamond Lake Recreation Center, Beach and Boat Launch.

“Diamond Lake was identified in our community-wide survey where people would love to see improvements made, so we’ve been spending the last couple of years in a planning mode to outline all of the priorities that residents have asked for,” Salski said.

Salski also says that while the lake remains busy, only about 1,000 visitors hit the beach side during the summer months.

They hope the master plan — and its eventual new look — will bring people back.
