(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in the far southwest suburbs have arrested a paramedic, accusing him of stealing drugs from ambulances.
Alex Wilhelmi worked for Metro Paramedic Services, which provided paramedics to the Troy Fire Protection District.
Shorewood Police Chief Phillip Arnold said colleagues of the paramedic noticed suspicious activity and reported it.
Investigators determined Wilhelmi had stolen drugs, including sedatives and medications used to treat depression and anxiety, from ambulances, Arnold said.
Wilhelmi stole the drugs for his personal use, he said.
Prosecutors have charged Wilhelmi with theft and possession of controlled substances.
