(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several members of the DuPage County Board expressed concerns about the sheriff’s suggestion his department won’t enforce provisions of Illinois' new ban on the sale of assault weapons.
Sheriff James Mendrick's said the ban's provision requiring current assault weapon owners to report serial numbers to state police is unconstitutional.
During a Tuesday meeting of the county board's Judicial and Public Safety Committee, commissioners like Yeena Yoo said the sheriff is setting a bad example for the public.
Resident Joe Amori told board members that the sheriff should not get to pick and choose which laws to enforce.
The sheriff has not offered a response.
