(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An investigation is underway over accusations that a teacher's aide at a south suburban school battered an 8-year-old student.

It happened at Marya Yates Elementary school in Matteson, authorities said. The student was running in the hall when the 26-year-old teacher’s aide allegedly grabbed the boy and slung him to the floor.

Officials said the aide dragged the child about 20 feet into a classroom, dropped him partially in the doorway and used her foot to forcefully nudge the child into the room while trying to close the door.

The boy did not report any injuries, but he told school staff what happened. After they reviewed security footage and confirmed his claims, the school resource officer arrested the aide.

Officials said the aide is expected to face charges for battery and endangering the life and health of a child.
