(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The decision by Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx not to run for re-election next year leaves the field wide open for a replacement.
There is already some jockeying for position, WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.
Foxx literally pointed to one possible contender to succeed her -- First Assistant Risa Lanier -- during her City Club speech Tuesday announcing her plans. But other potential candidates are being suggested -- or making their interest known.
Joseph Ferguson, the highly regarded former Chicago Inspector General, told the Sun-Times the state’s attorney’s office could present an opportunity, and he’ll make a decision in the coming weeks.
Former Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin -- who most recently ran for County Board President -- says he will launch a listening tour to gauge voter sentiment. He says he applauds Foxx for her efforts, but says the county is in a crime crisis.
Among others reportedly considering a run are former prosecutor Dan Kirk and former Chicago alderman Bob Fioretti.
