(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A former employee has filed a civil-rights lawsuit, accusing a suburban car dealership of racial discrimination and creating a hostile work environment.
Attorney Chiquita Hall-Jackson says her client – former salesman Andre Jennings -- was subjected to racial slurs by the managers and white employees of Napleton’s Kia of Elmhurst two or three times a week.
Jennings said he also was paid less than his white counterparts for about three and a half years. That ended in late 2022, when he says he was fired for standing up to his boss after being publicly humiliated.
He filed a complaint with the EEOC and the lawsuit last year. The dealership was part of a $10 million settlement two years ago between Napleton Automotive Group, the Federal Trade Commission and the state over charging Black customers more for financing and additional fees.
WBBM Newsradio has reached out to Napleton’s Kia of Elmhurst for comment.
