Suit filed after woman crashes SUV into family's living room

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Niles family is suing a woman who is accused by police of crashing an SUV into the family's townhome last week.

The driver, a woman in her 70s, tried to back out of a parking space in a residential complex, police say. Her SUV hit a garage and then went through a yard and into the townhome in the 8900 block of Heathwood Circle.

Two people from the townhome who were injured in the crash -- Vinny Nobile and her 18-year-old grandson, Matteo -- are suing the driver for negligence.

“There’s a lot of unanswered questions,” their attorney, Tim Cavanagh, said. “We don’t know why this woman drove the Mercedes Benz into the living room. That’s what the lawsuit is meant to provide answers to us.”

The crash remains under investigation, but police say no citations are expected because the crash happened on private property.
