Summer is here, and the heat is ramping up this week.
The Chicago area is in for some hot and humid weather this weekend, the National Weather Service said.
But on Saturday and Sunday, hot and humid conditions were expected to set in. Temperatures could reach the upper 90s, but the combination of heat and humidity could make it feel above 100 degrees, weather officials said.
The city of Chicago will have cooling centers open Saturday through Tuesday.
The Department of Family and Support Services will have six community service locations open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Garfield Center will be open for cooling on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Library, City Colleges of Chicago, and Chicago Police District locations will be open for cooling during regular hours of operation.
