CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sunday is the last day for Americans to enroll in health insurance via the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

An extra month was added to the ACA’s open enrollment period in an effort to allow more time for folks to get covered.

In Illinois, more than 330,000 people have signed up for health insurance through the ACA exchange. That’s an increase of about 10,000 people compared to the previous year, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

State Insurance officials said many people may also qualify for federal subsidies or tax credits through the ACA to help reduce monthly premiums.

Officials said the only way to find out if you qualify for the additional subsidies, though, is to enroll.

You can get more information and sign up for health insurance at getcovered.illinois.gov.
