(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In the ’80s and ’90s, big-screen TVs were the ultimate status symbol. People dropped thousands of dollars for 45-inch screens.

Carl Prouty, with Abt electronics in Glenview, joined the WBBM Noon Business Hour Wednesday — and said that's miniscule compared to the flat screen TVs for sale over Super Bowl weekend.

“Seventy-five-inch, you can an 86-inch, LG makes a 97-inch, so there’s all sorts of stuff out there,” Prouty said.

People do use the Super Bowl as an excuse to upgrade their home TV and sound system, but he said people also upgrade their kitchen items in advance of a Super Bowl party.

“We get a lot of air fryers. A lot of people are going with air fryers now because it’s a healthier way to cook your food and still get that kind of crispy outside,” he said.
