Ruthie the support dog

Cook County State's Attorney's Office

Eileen O’Neill Burke administered the oath of office on Monday to a 2-year-old golden retriever named Ruthie.

The dog will be based at the Domestic Violence Courthouse at 555 W. Harrison St. to support victims and witnesses of crime as they meet with prosecutors.

Ruthie completed specialized training at Healing Hearts Service Dogs in Tinley Park to provide comfort and relieve stress for people who have experienced trauma.
Burke says Ruthie will help "victims feel supported [and] empowered".
