(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 18-year-old Winthrop Harbor man was expected to be extradited from Wisconsin on murder charges for the shooting deaths of two 18-year-old women in Waukegan -- a crime authorities are calling domestic-related.
Waukegan police say the two victims were fatally shot Wednesday evening in a vehicle that was in a parking lot in the 2400 block of Washington Street. Police say they quickly identified a suspect who had fled the scene with another individual.
The suspect, Jonathan Stinnette, reportedly had been in a relationship with one of the shooting victims, police said. Authorities recovered several 9-millimeter shell casings and a 9-millimeter handgun at the scene.
Stinnette was later taken into custody in Kenosha Wisconsin, police said. He faces multiple counts of first-degree murder in Lake County, police said.
"Last evening, Waukegan lost two young souls in an isolated domestic incident," Mayor Ann Taylor said in a prepared statement. "Today, the Waukegan community as a whole joins the victims' families in mourning the loss of two 18-year-old Waukeganites."
The victims have not been publicly identified.
