(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 33-year-old Wheeling man has been charged in connection with a River North robbery and battery over the weekend that has been widely seen in a viral video.

Brandon Jefferson faces two counts each of robbery and aggravated battery and one count of receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, Chicago Police said Wednesday said.

Jefferson, arrested Monday, was identified as one of multiple offenders who battered a 40-year-old male in the 400 block of North State Street on Saturday, police said.

That is a reference to a crime caught on video that shows a violent incident unfold over minutes, with crowds of witnesses — but no police in sight. Two men are victimized in the video.

“There were officers on walking beats nearby. From our preliminary review it took about six minutes to get there,” Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said earlier this week. “Not everyone was cooperative. As you’ve seen, it was a very chaotic scene.”

Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said three men were beating up another man, and a second victim walked by and was hit. The two injured men were robbed, he said.

Jefferson was expected in court Thursday.
