A suspect who allegedly confessed to fatally stabbing a man early Tuesday in Auburn Gresham turned himself in at an Indiana casino, Chicago police said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Chicago officers responded to a well-being check at an apartment building in the 900 block of West 78th Street at the request of Indiana police, according to police.

When Chicago police arrived at the 78th Street address, they found a man unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to his body, Chicago police said.

"Victim has a lot of cuts all over his neck and face and a knife inside of his chest in the heart area," a Chicago police officer told a dispatcher over police scanner as the officer ordered an evidence technician to the scene.

The victim, who police said was a "John Doe,'' because they did not know his identity, was dead at the scene, the officer said.

The officer told the dispatcher the suspect had been arrested.

"He went to go turn himself in at casino over there," the officer told the dispatcher.

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
