Suspect remains in custody following shooting at West Side Halloween party that injured 15

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Fifteen people are recovering from gunshot wounds from a mass shooting early Sunday morning at a Halloween party in North Lawndale.

Chicago police said a man who was not allowed back into the party near 13th and Pulaski returned with a gun and began shooting.

Local comedian Tywon Tunscall described the chaos to CBS-2.

"[There was] gunfire everywhere, shots fired, everybody ducked. I was trying to help people, a couple people," Tunscall said.

Two of the victims were initially listed in critical condition, while the others were in good condition. They range in age from 26 to 53.

Director of community policing Glen Brooks said the department is opening an emergency assistance center tomorrow.

"It's really important that we also deal with the trauma that is affecting not only the victims but their families and this community," Brooks said.

Police arrested the gunman nearby and recovered a handgun. They said the location has a history of hosting events without a license.
