(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In Kankakee, two people were killed around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. One person is in custody.
Kankakee police say a New Year's Eve house party on the 1800 block of Pearson Parkway had been going all night long, even though there had been complaints about noise and disturbances.
“We had seven individuals that were struck by gunfire inside the residence. Two had succumbed to their injuries, and the other 5 are being treated but are expected to survive the wounds from the shooting,” Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis said.
“At this time, police are still investigating the cause and the scene. We do have a suspect that is in custody and is being interviewed by detectives.”
The two men who were killed were a 20-year-old and a 22-year-old. The other victims injured included three women and two men.
Police say multiple shell casing and firearms were recovered from inside the home.
Kankakee police are still hoping that anyone with information will contact them at 815-933-0426, but they do have someone in custody.
