(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Police confirmed that a man who tried to hold up a customer at a gas station has died from injuries suffered when the victim fought back.

Investigators said a 36-year-old man was inside a gas station at 76th and Halsted streets just after 11 a.m. when two men allegedly came up to him, grabbed him by the hair and demanded money.

That's when police said the victim took out a knife and allegedly stabbed one of the robbers in the neck. The other robber reportedly hit the victim in the face with a gun, and then everyone ran away.

Police took the robbers into custody, but the 38-year-old who was stabbed died at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

The victim's being treated as well and is expected to recover.
