CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When news broke that Tavern on Rush would close in October 2022 after nearly 25 years in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, the community’s reaction included a mix of nostalgia and sadness. On Thursday, though, some good news came: Tavern on Rush is reopening.
Stefani Restaurant Group, the original owner of Tavern on Rush, announced that that restaurant would return this summer to the neighborhood — to a space located across the street from its old location, which is currently home to the Bellevue Chicago.
“Community is and always will be at the heart of Tavern on Rush,” said owner Phil Stefani. “As this short-term retirement draws to a close, we look forward to opening our doors once again to those who have loved us for the last 25 years and those who have yet to meet us.”
Tavern on Rush’s new location will be on the ground and second floors of the Thompson Chicago at 1015 N. Rush St.
The 16,000-square-foot space will include a main dining room, cocktail lounge, bar, outdoor patio and multiple rooms for private events.
In a press release, the restaurant group said Tavern on Rush will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, as well as brunch on the weekends. Guests at the hotel will be able to order room service from Tavern on Rush, and the restaurant will also provide catering for banquets on the third and fourth floors.
Officials said Benny Nadzaku, who was described as “one of the faces” of the former restaurant, will return to the new space.
