While the holiday season may have been taxing enough, don’t let scammers leave you out in the cold with tax scams.

The tax season just opened this week so be on the alert for phony phone calls, emails, and texts, as fraudsters are ready to cash in on ever-evolving tax scams.

These schemes often use threatening tactics, claiming that you’re in trouble with the IRS, making fake promises of larger returns, or insisting that your money is ready, but that a bit more information is needed.

One key tip to keep you safe is to never give out your banking or social security number over the phone.

Scammers can not only steal your money and identity, but they can actually file and steal your tax refund.
