TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A teen boy was arrested after he found with a gun near a high school in Tinley Park.
The incident happened near the Andrew High School campus. The 17-year-old boy of Orland Park was not a student at the school, according to police.
He was let into the building Tuesday morning by a student who opened a side door. However, he was immediately turned away by a staff member who told him to enter through the south entrance, as the school day had already started.
Police said the boy then began wandering around the east side of the building before leaving the premises. The school resource officer then approached the teen, who had walked off campus, and found a handgun in the boy’s waistband.
“We applaud the quick response of high school staff and the school resource officer when alerted to the teen’s presence on campus,” Tinley Park Village Manager Pat Carr said in a statement.
The incident is still under investigation.
