(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 17-year old gun suspect who was punched repeatedly by Oak Lawn police during his arrest is to appear in juvenile court today.

Cook County prosecutors are continuing their case against Hadi Abuatelah who is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor. But, an Arab American advocacy group continues to push for prosecutors to charge the police officers involved in the teenager’s arrest.

He was repeatedly punched and left with injuries that required him to be hospitalized. A lawsuit claims Abuatelah was hospitalized with internal bleeding in his brain, a broken nose and pelvis and cuts and bruises. Oak Lawn police said officers believed Abuatelah was reaching for the gun that was in his bag as they were trying to handcuff him.
