CARY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A car fire forced the closure of an intersection in far northwest suburban Cary Monday for two hours.

Firefighters battled the cold as they put out a fire in the median of Algonquin Road and Northwest Highway.

The Cary Fire Department said initial reports were for a crash, but, when they arrived at around 4 p.m., crews found a black two-door Mustang on fire.

The teen driver was able to get out without injury.

Firefighters called in salt trucks to treat the road after water from the hoses turned the pavement icy amid temperatures in the teens.
