(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois reported 5,000 new COVID cases. People may not need to go to a doctor’s office to get a prescription to treat the virus.
The website Dr. B is offering access to paxlovid and mal-nupiravir for people with COVID in Illinois and 40 other states. Founder and CEO Cyrus Massoumi said that means they’ll be able to get the prescriptions within that important five-day window after testing positive.
"We think this is the most efficient, the most cost effective and the safest pathway for people to get access to this medication."
He said after a doctor has reviewed the person’s positive test and health assessment online, the order will be sent to their pharmacy for $15.
"If a patient can't afford $15, we will treat them for free- if they fill out an online health assessment indicating their financial hardship."
Massoumi says the site started offering the antiviral to people 18 and over this week.
