Mayor Johnson says Chicago deserves some credit for a major decision by a leading gun manufacturer.

The city filed a lawsuit against Glock Inc. last year, accusing the company of knowingly making and selling pistol models that could easily be converted into semi-automatic weapons.

Now, the company has announced it will stop the production and sale of its pistols by the end of the month.

“We believe this is a direct result of our lawsuit, and our lawsuit essentially claimed that Glock is contributing to the gun epidemic that we have across this country.”

Shortly after the announcement was made, Mayor Johnson spoke with WBBM Political Editor Geoff Buchholz.

“Their decision to discontinue these weapons is evidence that our lawsuit provided the provocation that’s necessary for this manufacturing company to do the right thing.”

The Mayor also said the city will now review if similar legal action can be taken against other manufacturers moving forward.

Officials say between 2021 and 2024, Chicago Police recovered close to one converted Glock each day.
