CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thousands gathered on the South Sides Saturday to celebrate labor at the 2023 Chicago Labor Day Parade.
The Pullman neighborhood is home to several important events in the American Labor Movement, which is one of the reasons why Rosemary Peckler said it was important for her to show up.
"This is where the labor movement started, so it just fits so perfectly, and they have a big fest every year, so why not have the parade along with the fest."
Barbara Cruz traveled from Little Village for the parade. She said the day knocked off a couple items on her to-do list.
"We were like two birds with one stone," she said. Not only Cruz she get to celebrate labor, but also commemorate Chicago's history with labor.
Elizabeth Jenkins said she doesn't live too far from Pullman and it was important for her to visit the historic neighborhood and to support Chicago's workers.
"I do think the little guys at the bottom-when you think of the hierarchy, they need to be celebrated more, because they're the ones who do the work," she said.
The parade featured over 100 floats and 700 participants.
