CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thousands of people received coats, toys, and food at a coat giveaway at Apostolic Faith Church in Bronzeville Friday.
The Church expected to hand out as many as 2,000 coats and 3,000 toys at this year's giveaway, which has been going on since the mid-1980's.
Several South Side residents expressed gratitude for the giveaway, saying it took a weight off their shoulders to be able to grab some winter necessities.
Besides winter gear, some of the items given away include makeup and superhero figurines.
Pastor Robert Tillery said he and other feel that they have "a great responsibility to the community," especially since the COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many families.
