CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Businessman and politician Willie Wilson’s big gas giveaway event is less than 24 hours away and it looks as if a few of the gas stations that were scheduled to take part, have backed off.
According to CBS 2, three gas stations, two Thornton stations in Dixmoor and Bellwood and a Citgo in the Bridgeport neighborhood, have said thanks but no thanks to being involved in Wilson’s gas giveaway.
A couple of suburban police departments say the $50 per person event will cost taxpayers in police overtime.
“We can offer alternative locations that might be better suited or other suggestions such as the gas card giveaway,” Alsip Police Chief Jay Miller told CBS 2.
But, Wilson says he’s the one giving away the million dollars worth of gas and he’ll decide how he’ll do it.

“I’m not going to let anybody, literally anybody, tell me how to spend my money. If they want to do something, spend their own money and go out and do it,” Wilson said to CBS 2.
The City of Chicago has set up some ground rules to prevent last minute line cutting. Motorists will not be allowed to start lining up before the giveaway starts at seven in the morning and, once in line, you’ll be given a sticker which is your ticket to get up to 50 dollars in free gas.
Traffic control aides will be on hand to try to manage the situation.
