
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some local chefs have won awards that have been called the "Oscars of the culinary industry."
Chefs from Chicago have picked up honors at this year's edition of the prestigious James Beard Awards.
Damarr Brown of Virtue in Hyde Park was recognized as "emerging chef of the year."
Tim Flores and Genie Kwon - chefs and owners of the Michelin-starred, modern Filipino restaurant Kasama in Ukrainian Village - were named as Best in the Great Lakes Region.
“We are thrilled to celebrate excellence exemplified by the quality and diverse restaurants and chefs who play a pivotal role in shaping our country’s vibrant culinary landscape," said Adrian Miller, Restaurant and Chef Awards Committee Chair in a statement.
The Beard Awards were presented during a ceremony at the Lyric Opera House Monday night.
