(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three Ogle County deputies were shot and wounded while trying to bring a barricade situation to an end in a gated community near the town of Dixon — located about 100 miles west of Chicago.

Ogle County Sheriff Brian Van Veckel said deputies were called to a home on Wild Wild Rice Lane near Crow Court in the unincorporated Dixon community of Lost Lake.

"We received information from a family member about an individual at 402 Wild Rice Lane," he said. "This individual had threatened not only suicide, but homicide, and it was quickly determined that our emergency response team [needed] to be activated."

Van Veckel said deputies tried for hours to make contact with the suspect before making the decision to enter the house.

"Immediately upon entering the house, our deputies received fire from inside the house," Van Veckel said. "Three deputies were struck by gunfire and transported to local hospitals. The suspect was also struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital."

Van Veckel said all four are still alive and were in good condition.

The only information provided about the suspect was that they were an armed individual.

Illinois State Police investigators are looking into the shooting.
