(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was killed and two teen boys injured Wednesday night in a shooting at an Evanston beach that prompted a shelter-in-place order for nearby Northwestern University campus.

Evanston police say they responded to Clark Street Beach in the 1800 block of Sheridan for a shooting around 8:30 p.m. An 18- or 19-year-old man was dead, and a 15-year-old boy was critically wounded; another 15-year-old suffered a minor gunshot wound, police said.

Suspects reportedly fled north toward the Northwestern campus, but police said the shooting itself was not connected to the university and did not involve students.

Northwestern issued a shelter-in-place order as a precaution. It was lifted around 10 p.m.

No further information was available.
