(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Election years can be pretty competitive, but this year could be Illinois' most competitive in more than two decades.
According to The Illinois Policy Institute, over the last decade, about half of the races for the Illinois' House of Representatives were uncontested. Because of that, the organization set out to increase competition.
"This is a bipartisan process for us," said Adam Schuster, Vice President of Policy at the institute.
"We recruited Republicans, Democrats, Independents even some smaller third party candidates."
Schuster said the effort resulted in so many new candidates that the state could see 82 contested House of Representative races--the most in 24 years.
"Ultimately, increasing choices, increases participation in democracy, because people are more likely to turn out when their vote actually matters.?
