(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local physician is weighing in on a new TikTok trend that involves eating something a bit unusual.
“On the spectrum of eating Tide Pods or eating cinnamon, this is probably less dangerous than that,” says Dr. Scott Goldstein, a pediatrician with the Northwestern Children’s Practice.
He is referring to a recipe posted by actress Reese Witherspoon combining coffee, flavored syrups and snow.
“It’s so good,” the actress says in the video that has more 200,000 likes. “I know what to call it. A salted snowy cappuccino.”
The video has gotten pushback from some who say it’s unsanitary and dangerous.
“Is this bad?” Witherspoon asks in a separate video. “Am I not supposed to eat snow?”
Dr. Goldstein says no, not necessarily.
“I would say it’s like anything,” he said. “Anything can potentially be bad for you, but eating snow is probably not high up on the list of things that are going to be harmful for people.”
He adds the people should avoid consuming snow that has touched the ground or been plowed. Otherwise, bon appétit.
