Tinley Park community shocked over shooting deaths of mother and her 3 daughters

TINLEY PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Tinley Park Police have a person in custody after a shooting in a home Sunday that killed a woman and her three daughters.

Village Manager Pat Carr said a man called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. to report a shooting in the home at 173rd and Osceola.

The village has identified the women as 53-year-old Majeda Kassem and her adult daughters, Hanan, Halema and Zahia. Halema and Zahia are twins. All were in their mid-20s.

A neighbor told CBS-2 her daughter knew the family that included a husband and two sons as well.

“She always talked about how they were all very intelligent, and they had very high goals in life, like being a pharmacist and a doctor, and that she never knew that there were any problems at all,” the neighbor said.

“We’re in shock. I think the whole neighborhood is probably in shock because we don’t see this kind of stuff.”

Police are expected to give an update today at 11 a.m. on the case that they are calling a domestic situation but said they recovered a weapon and there is no threat to the public.
