Tragic accident: Toddler dies after being run over by father’s truck

Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A north suburban toddler died after apparently being run over by his father’s pick-up truck Tuesday night in the family's driveway in Barrington.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the 18-month old boy was outside with his mother and other siblings Tuesday night, when his father entered his Chevrolet pickup truck, which was parked in the driveway, about 50 feet away from the children.

Just before the father began backing down the driveway, police said the toddler ran toward the pickup, which nobody saw. The father began backing up then turned the pickup, so he could pull forward out of the driveway. This caused one of the front tires of the pickup to roll over the toddler.

The father and mother placed the toddler into the pickup and rushed him to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the 25600 block of West Drake Road in unincorporated Barrington.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team and Lake County Coroner’s Office, however, police believe it to be a "tragic accident."
