Illinois Tollway officials are gathering input on proposed rate increases.
After more than a decade without an increase, Illinois Tollway Directors are calling for passenger toll rates to surge about 45-cents per toll.
Commercial toll rates would go up 30%, and beginning in 2029, rates would be adjusted every other year based on inflation.
It's all part of a 15-year, $26.5 billion capital plan aimed at improving traffic and road conditions, while also spurring economic development.
A series of public hearings will be held statewide to allow customers and community members the opportunity to provide feedback.
The hearings run through July 24, before a possible vote Aug. 19.
If approved, the toll hikes would take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
