(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – After a tense period during which Chicago was under a rare tornado warning, weather officials have issued the all-clear.

The warning had been issued for the city and surrounding communities until 7:45 p.m. A volatile round of storms came in from the west and reportedly produced a suspected funnel cloud near O'Hare International Airport.

A confirmed tornado was on the ground there around 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. There were reports of damaged warehouses near the airport and also storm damage across the Chicago region.

Much of the Chicago region was still under a tornado watch until 10 p.m., although weather officials said it was possible it could be lifted early.

Rain and potential flooding remained a concern because of recent heavy rainfall.
