(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has updated its Tuesday tornado watch to include several Indiana counties and parts of Michigan.
The tornado watch expired at 8 p.m. CST, officials said. Previous tornado watched issued Tuesday included the Chicago area and several Illinois counties.
NWS officials said the storms could contain hail as large as a golf ball and wind gusts up to 70 mph.
If you need to take shelter, the NWS recommends going to an interior room of a well constructed building or a basement. Avoid sheltering inside of a mobile home, vehicle or underneath a highway overpass.
The NWS also warned that the Chicago area will likely see scattered thunderstorms until 5 p.m. The strongest storms were expected to hit northwest Indiana.
