CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of the 43rd annual Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade on Sunday but organizers were still out collecting .

Western Avenue is normally full of thousands of motorcycles carrying new toys from Dan Ryan Woods up to the collection point off Roscoe Village on the North Side.

Organizers instead collected today at a school, a bar, an American Legion and a Moose Lodge from riders, some who wore festive hats and one dressed as an abominable snowman.

Sharon Choate, secretary for the Chicagoland Toys for Tots Parade, told WBBM they’ll accept donations at their warehouse in Bridgeview through Dec. 20.

Choate said she worries without the parade there may not be enough toys to help answer the nearly 6,000 letters they’ve already received.

You can drop off toys at the warehouse or donate to their go fund me campaign, which has already brought in $6,000 in donations.
