CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Passengers experienced delays and even stoppages on some of the Chicago Transit Authority's Red, Brown and Purple Line trains, due to a track fire near Fullerton Station.

The CTA described the fire as "minor," but said it was affecting Red, Brown and Purple line trains, which are stopped in the area near Fullerton.

Shuttle buses have been called in to assist passengers traveling between downtown and Belmont Avenue.

Commuters should expect travel to take significantly longer as the CTA works to restore service. As of 4:40 p.m., the CTA said Red Line trains were running with "residual delays."
