CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One man was killed, and two women were hospitalized in a shooting in Greater Grand Crossing that took place less than one hour into the New Year, said Chicago police.
Police said it was about 12:45 a.m. when bullets — fired from outside of a home on South Wabash Avenue near East 70th Street— broke through a window and struck three people inside.
One of the victims was a 53-year-old man. Police said he had been shot multiple times and was declared dead at the scene.
A 49-year-old woman, who had been shot in the side of the head, was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
A 48-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm. She was in fair condition, police said.
No details were shared about what specifically led to the shooting, and police said no one was in custody.
Area One detectives are investigating the shooting.
