(WBBM Newsradio) – President Donald Trump is sharply criticizing Indiana Senate Republicans for refusing to return to the Statehouse in December to vote on mid-decade redistricting, intensifying pressure on GOP lawmakers as party leaders say they lack the votes to move forward.
In a Truth Social post over the weekend, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Senate Republicans and accused Gov. Mike Braun – whom he called “a friend of mine” – of not working hard enough to rally support. Trump claimed Braun “wouldn’t be governor without me” and urged primary challenges against any Republican who opposes his push for new maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Redistricting typically occurs once a decade after the U.S. Census.
Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray announced Friday that the chamber will not reconvene next month, saying the votes simply aren’t there.
One of the lawmakers Trump singled out, state Sen. Greg Goode, said he and his family were the victims of a swatting incident Sunday night. According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, a fake email reported harm inside Goode’s home, prompting deputies to respond to what they believed was a domestic violence emergency. Officers arrived to find no threat.
Sheriff Derek Fell called the false report dangerous and said the incident is now under investigation with assistance from federal authorities.
Goode said his family is safe and thanked first responders, calling the episode “unfortunate” and reflective of the current political climate.
