The head of The Loretto Hospital on Tuesday said he takes full responsibility for wrongly sending a medical team to Trump Tower to vaccinate six dozen workers against COVID-19 — ahead of their turn.
The CEO and president of The Loretto Hospital, George Miller, said he thought the Trump Tower employees were essential workers whose turn had come in the vaccination order.
But restaurant and hotel staff are not yet eligible, under the current Phase 1B of vaccine distribution.
Loretto Hospital serves a mostly Black and Latinx population on the West Side. Miller said some Trump Tower employees live in the area, “and that’s how the connection got made.”
“I do not regret that we vaccinated African Americans and Latinos,” he said, adding: “I want to always be in compliance.”
A city of Chicago spokesperson said the Lightfoot administration was not aware of a vaccine clinic at Trump Tower and added “we have reached out to them to find out more details.”
Hotel workers will be included in Phase 1C, which could begin by month’s end, the city said.
