CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — So many weddings were postponed last year, and now those couples who waited to get married are competing for venues with other pairs who want to tie the knot this year.

“Unless you’re open to a Wednesday or a Thursday wedding, it’s going to be tough to get married this year if you don’t already have a venue booked,” advises Jen Ganson, owner and lead wedding planner at A Fresh Event.

“There’s more demand and there’s more couples trying to get married. It’s like a backlog,” she said Wednesday.

“Like that ship that was just caught in the canal,” Ganson added, referring to the recent Suez logjam. “We have all of these weddings waiting to happen and we’re just waiting until we can. And it’s going to be a lot.”

Ganson said one couple had been planning on a wedding with 250 guests.

A year later, that’s down to 40, with all needing proof of vaccination.
