Airport security employees will no longer be allowed to sit while checking boarding passes and IDs at the airport.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said it is now taking away chairs for officers at airport checkpoints nationwide and that TSA officers checking passengers' IDs must stand.
TSA said the policy is designed to help officers remain alert.
The decision received pushback from the union representing TSA workers, which said they were not consulted before the decision was made and that chairs provide basic ergonomic safety support for workers.
The union is reportedly "moving aggressively to address this matter" and urging members to reach out to their congressional leaders.
