(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two people are dead following a police chase and crash Tuesday night in the south suburbs.

Hazel Crest police said the chase started in Harvey, as officers from the Harvey Police Department responded to a disturbance call at 159th Street and Dixie Highway.

Police chased a car down Dixie Highway until 170th Street when it swerved to avoid hitting another car.

The car being chased left the road, hit a sign and split in two. All three people in the vehicle were ejected.

The medical examiner’s office said 19-year old Elexis Dampier, of Hazel Crest, and 19-year old Justin Alston, of Markham, were killed. The third was injured.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the death investigation while Harvey police look into the chase itself.
