
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are investigating separate shootings the wounded children last night on the south side.
Twice last night staff in the ER at Comer Children’s Hospital found themselves treating children with gunshot wounds to their legs. The incidents happened about 45 minutes apart.
The first was at about 8 p.m. in an alley near 71st and King Drive. Police said a 15-year-old girl was walking with a large group.
As they entered the alley a man who was across the street fired shots, the girl was hit in the left leg and was in good condition.
Police said the shooter is unknown and no one is in custody. The second incident also happened in an alley near 56th and Michigan Avenue.
A 12-year-old boy was talking with a friend when someone fired shots. Despite his leg wound he was able to run to a neighbor’s home before being taken to the hospital.
He was also in good condition.
